Course Information
  • Theory and some assessments delivered online (requiring reasonable computer skills, internet access, email access and research skills
  • AIFL may offer this qualification in a blended learning mode in selected locations, depending on student numbers
  • Trainer and IT support is available throughout your period of enrolment
  • Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfers will be offered to all students, as part of the Pre- Training Review Process
  • Work Placement: 80 hours placement in a Mental Health setting is a requirement to complete your qualification. This placement may be offered at Health Services in Victoria (or with an alternative provider, depending on placement availability)
  • Prior to enrolment, all applicants will be required to complete a literacy, reading and numeracy assessment to assist with determining eligibility and to identify learning support needs.
  • Please be aware work placement providers may require a current Police Check, Working with Children Check, First Aid and/or immunisation records. (Any cost associated with these documents are the students expense).
  • Students of all abilities are encouraged to apply at any time of the year
Qualification Structure
Total number of units = 15 (approximately 905 hours of study) 11 core units & 4 elective units
Core Units
  • CHCDIV001 – Work with diverse people

  • CHCDIV002 – Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety

  • CHCLEG001 – Work legally and ethically

  • CHCMHS002 – Establish self-directed recovery relationships

  • CHCMSH003 – Provide recovery oriented mental health services

  • CHCMHS004 – Work collaboratively with the care network and other services

  • CHCMHS005 – Provide services to people with coexisting mental health & alcohol & other drug issues

  • CHCMHS007 – Work effectively in trauma informed care

  • CHCMHS008 – Promote and facilitate self-advocacy

  • CHCMHS011 – Access and promote social, emotional and physical wellbeing

  • HLTWHS001 – Participate in workplace health and safety
Elective Units

Disability Stream

  • CHCDIS001 – Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach

  • CHCDIS002 – Follow established person-centred behaviour supports

  • CHCDIS007 – Facilitate the empowerment of people with disability

  • CHCCCS003 – Increase the safety of individuals at risk of suicide

Alcohol and Other Drugs Stream

  • CHCCOM002 – Use communication to build relationships

  • CHCAOD002 – Work with clients who are intoxicated

  • CHCCCS014 – Provide brief interventions

  • CHCCCS003 – Increase the safety of individuals at risk of suicide

The student tuition fees as published are subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment
